The Sandwitches // “The Pearl”
A few months ago I tagged The Sandwitches’ latest album Mrs. Jones’ Cookies as my favorite album of 2011 (so far!). Since that time I can safely say that their number one spot has been pretty secure. Sure, they are seeing some competition lately from recent offerings by Born Gold, Balam Acab, and Youth Lagoon; yet still at the top it remains. So you can imagine my joy when I heard about this upcoming 7”.
The A-side track “The Pearl” finds the ladies in familiar territory. Their strange hybrid of garage and folk is always weird as it is wandering. But for all their quirks The Sandwitches’ and their music manage to issue forth this sort of backwoods country warmth. It’s the kind of music that goes great with sitting in a creaky, old rocking chair for extended periods of time. Catch this release early next month from Hardly Art.
And in honor of October and the approaching celebration of All Hallow’s Eve, check out this video for “Kiss Your Feet” off of The Sandwitches’ excellently excellent debut How To Make Ambient Sadcake. It’s super creepy!
