Leisure Birds // Globe Master

Moon Glyph is such a reliable label (I’ll be forever grateful to them for the Food Pyramid trilogy). I don’t share their releases as often as I should, but all that changes today with Lesiure Birds’ Globe Master. Listen to “Egyptian Ring”, one of the albums singles, and then check back in after you do.

The label describes the Minneapolis band as “sci-fi garage”, which fits, but they also have a pretty heavy touch of psych in there too. Globe Master has a rather involved concept story involving space travel, globe trotting, and transcendence. It’s heady stuff for sure and the music’s complexities speak to all the different conceptual levels, but it is also enjoyable on a purely aesthetic level. It’s slinky psych pop with a foot stomping garage rock edge accompanied by cosmic synthesizers that keeps the music’s gaze fixated permanently on the sky. It’s a journey that is just begging to be taken.
