Assassins 88 // Kaneda EP
Man, this EP is not for the lighthearted. Lately when people have thrown the term “blown out” around, it has typically referred to bass-heavy darkwave or some funky lo-fi R&B. Well listening to Assassins 88’s Kaneda EP, “blown out” is definitely the first phrase that comes screaming to the front of my mind.
Bordering on headache-inducing, this music is loud, fast, abrasive and might cause hemorrhaging in and around the ear area. It’s funny that the band references David Cronenberg-like horror sci-fi in their track titles and cover artwork because the scene in Scanners where the dude’s head blows up is a pretty good visual representation of the sonic onslaught of this EP.
If you’re a fan of abrasive punk rock or if you like to remind your ears that they are still alive, then Kaneda just might be for you. You can download it for free on Australian based label Dream Damage.
