Title: The Death Posture Artist: Bosse-de-Nage 557 plays

Bosse-de-Nage // ii

I received a promo of this album and not having heard anything from this black metal band before I eagerly dove into it and absolutely loved what I found there. Plus out of all the different styles of metal that are out there, black metal is probably the one that I am least versed in so I’m always looking to make myself more familiar.

I think the thing that first drew me into the music on this album is how raw it feels. It’s very easy for metal of this caliber to slip into overly-produced territory and it quickly becomes almost sterile. It loses its edge when computer fingerprints are all over the music smoothing every rough edge. With Bosse-de-Nage though the music still possess all of the power of the black metal genre but it does it an way that feels almost spontaneous and edgy. The machine gun drumming is just as furious, the guitar noise wails just as loud, and the screams are just as primal; but everything feels much more in your face. It’s almost as if the band is playing live right in front of your face. It’s raw and brutal and I love it.

One other thing that I found interesting is that the band cites post-rock godfathers Slint as a major influence on this album and the more I listen to it the more I can hear that. So if you are a metal fan or if you’re just curious give Bosse-de-Nage a shot and see if you don’t like what you hear. And if you really dig it you can order the LP from Flenser Records or you can hear some more of the album on the label’s soundcloud.
