Sports Bar // Tyler Perry’s Sports Bar

Last summer I shared the infectious debut album from Richmond/Brooklyn pop punk band Life Coach. Well that band was sort of an offshoot of and shares some members with another Richmond band called Sports Bar. The two bands definitely share a flair for the energetic, but where Life Coach played straight up pop punk, Sports Bar play a more punk-infused garage rock.

As you can tell from their artwork, track names and an album title like Tyler Perry’s Sports Bar, Sports Bar is a band that makes fun its #1 priority. They slather on the bouncing bass lines with poppy guitar licks and a generous helping of gang vocals. It’s the kind of music that elicits a strong urge to sing along even if you don’t know the words. The kind of music that can only truly be experienced in a crowded bar full of sweaty kids and maybe with some beer being slung around in the air.

Title: RNF Artist: Life Coach 299 plays

Life Coach // Life Coach

There were two bands. Sports Bar hailed from Richmond, Virginia and Sexy Crimes called Brooklyn, NY home. While touring together, the four people in these two bands decided to have fun and kill time by writing some songs together. The result was a new band called Life Coach. Keeping their goals simple, the band says that they are just a rad band trying to have a good time. If you listen to their self-titled album I think you’ll agree that fun, if anything, is the thing that comes screaming through.

If you’re into short tracks that are bursting with punk energy, insanely catchy pop hooks, and sing-a-along group vocals then you’ll find a lot to love about Life Coach. If you could bottle the vibe of a pool party on a hot summer day with good friends and tons of beer and distill that feeling into a musical representation, then Life Coach would undoubtedly be the result. It’s a bristly good time that just doesn’t quit and I’m absolutely loving it. You can grab it for free on their site right now. Don’t hesitate!
