DanniellRadall // Pardo
My man DanniellRadall is about to EXPLODE. Not literally, that would be disgusting. I’m talking about his new release Pardo. If this thing doesn’t shoot him to the stratosphere then there is something askew with the world. He’s been teasing us with little snippets about Pardo here and there, but I didn’t want snippets! I wanted Pardo! Well well well, the time has come.
Building on and consolidating the sound that he established on La Femme, DR solidifies himself as a retro 80’s pop stalwart. Forget all the people that do this sound sorta well, because Pardo does it AMAZINGLY. One thing that I particularly love about his music is his incorporation of some slamming guitar solos (just look at track “Broke and Broken”). It adds some spice that makes his music all the more enjoyable. (OH! and this EP features a reworked version of “Love Is You”. A track that premiered on the Christmas mixtape that Unholy Rhythms and I put together.)
If Pardo doesn’t make you feel like you’re cruising around on a speedboat with the dudes from Miami Vice, then there is something definitely wrong with you. You can pay what you want for it on his bandcamp page. Mark this one down as one of my favorites of 2011 (so far!).

Poitier // Validity
Thanks to the awesome Pasta Primavera, my day took a sudden turn for the better. He introduced me to Poitier, and all of a sudden the world doesn’t look so crappy anymore. Poitier is first and foremost a hip-hop artist, but to leave it at that would be a heinous crime. There is so much more to him and listening to his music is just pure enjoyment. The diverse genres of music that he taps into make it clear that he is fully immersed in the current independent music scene (he even samples The xx’s “Intro” on his track “Catch 21”).
If you enjoy the pop-culture immersed, self-aware music of cats like Das Racist or Childish Gambino then you will no doubt enjoy Poitier’s mixtape Validity. You can download the whole thing for free on his tumblr page. I can’t recommend it enough. I am just really really enjoying it. So get on it.

Dream Band  -  Dream Band EP
Here are some fresh tunes via my inbox. When I followed the link to Dream Band’s site, the first thing I noticed was the cover artwork. This might just be my personal opinion, but when a band puts effort into making great cover artwork, it speaks volumes about the band’s attitude towards their music and automatically gears me up to listen to it.
Though the band only has this three-song EP, they are way ahead of the game. Their slightly psychedelic indie pop style is pretty classic, but they execute it flawlessly. Fitting somewhere between MGMT’s more traditional songwriting and say Grizzly Bear, the music on this EP really shines. The production is first class and so is the songwriting. I’m stoked about this band and can’t wait until they unleash their followup.
Grab this EP on bandcamp for $1.98, mere pocket change my friends.

Girl Talk - All Day
OK, for a blog that largely focuses on the release of free music there is no way that I could leave this out, right?
Now most of you are already aware that this is out there and has been all day. I unfortunately had class all day and am just now listening to it for the first time.
Now I’ve enjoyed Girl Talk in the past, but I feel like this is just him taking his craft to another level. I’m sitting here literally laughing at how clever and all around fun this album is. If you are at all a fan of music then you would be doing yourself a disservice by ignoring this free album.
Get it here, here, here or here. Now fly! X

Is it totally uncool to like Boyz II Men? Because I will gladly label myself uncool.

And today was crap.

Title: One and Only Artist: Telenovelas 40 plays

Holy crap this song is perfect. The group is called Telenovelas and to date they have one single track on their bandcamp. The song is called “One and Only” and I swear that this song is perfect. The song starts off with a beachy guitar riff followed by boy/girl harmonies and ooh-wahs that will surf their way straight into your heart. Now I know, I know, the whole surf thing has been done to death this year. However, I would rather have one group do it really (really) well than a hundred groups doing it so-so. Head to their site to snag the song (you’ll have to leave an e-mail address behind). It’s a groovy good time.

Also, check out their myspace to hear some other swell tracks.
